Chat History: Resume Conversations
Find and resume past agent conversations from the chat history page.
Every conversation you have with the engineer assistant is saved. The chat history page lets you browse past conversations, reopen any of them, and pick up where you left off.
Opening chat history#
Go to /chat-history (it appears as Assistant in the navigation for reviewers, firm admins, and superusers). The page has a list of your conversations on the left and the selected conversation on the right.
Conversations are listed newest first and grouped by recency:
- Today
- This Week
- Earlier
Each entry shows a title — derived from your first message in that conversation — plus how long ago it started and how many turns it ran.
Conversations started by emailing your agent appear in this list too, since they're the same kind of session.
Starting a new chat#
Click New chat at the top of the list to begin a fresh conversation. New chats are the cheapest way to work — the assistant starts with a clean context.
Resuming a conversation#
Click any conversation in the list to open its full transcript, then keep typing to continue it. The assistant sees the earlier turns and picks up the thread.
Resuming replays the entire conversation back to the assistant, which uses more of your AI allowance than starting fresh. A banner reminds you of this when you open a past chat. If you don't need the prior context, start a new chat instead.
What's saved#
Each conversation is a session made up of your messages and the assistant's replies, in order. Along with the text, ClearSpan keeps the streamed steps (tool cards, code-execution steps) so a reopened conversation re-renders the same view you saw live. File cards also show on the messages that carried attachments — though historical files are display-only and aren't re-sent to the model on resume.
Only conversations with at least one message show up in the list; empty or aborted sessions are skipped.
Privacy#
The list and transcripts are scoped to you — you only ever see your own conversations, and only you can open them.
Where to use this#
Chat history is part of the engineer assistant. For how the assistant works overall — opening it, the model picker, and streaming — see Engineer Chat Assistant and Chat: Streaming & Live Thinking.
